Our standard

Lagos Journal of Library Science follows the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All participants in scholarly publishing — authors, reviewers and editors — are expected to uphold them.

Duties of authors

  • Submit original work that is not under consideration elsewhere; disclose related publications and preprints.
  • Ensure all listed authors made substantive contributions and approve the submission; acknowledge other contributors.
  • Report methods honestly, retain underlying data, and disclose funding, competing interests and ethical approvals.
  • Correct significant errors promptly by contacting the editors.

Duties of reviewers

  • Review objectively, constructively and on time; keep manuscripts confidential.
  • Declare competing interests and decline where objectivity is compromised.
  • Report suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication or data fabrication to the editor in confidence.

Duties of editors

  • Decide solely on scholarly merit through fair, unbiased peer review.
  • Keep author and reviewer identities protected according to the review model and handle appeals transparently.
  • Investigate suspected misconduct following COPE flowcharts, up to correction, expression of concern or retraction.

Readers who suspect a problem with a published article should use the report a concern form. Reports are triaged confidentially by the editorial team.

Required article shape

Manuscripts should be prepared so they can be typeset in the journal format: A4, portrait, numbered sections, APA references, tables captioned above, and figures captioned below. Include an abstract, keywords, author affiliations, and these statements even when the answer is “None declared”:

Lagos Journal of Library Science welcomes original, unpublished research and scholarly articles within its scope. Submissions are accepted from authors worldwide through the online author portal.

Lagos Journal of Library Science is an open-access journal: all published articles are free to read, download and share immediately on publication, with no subscription barriers and no embargo.

Author rights

  • Authors retain copyright in their work and grant the journal a licence to publish.
  • Articles are published under a Creative Commons licence (CC BY by default), permitting reuse with attribution.
  • Authors may deposit any version — submitted, accepted or published — in institutional or subject repositories at any time.

Indexing and preservation

Open metadata (including DOIs, abstracts and references) is exposed for harvesters and indexes, and content is preserved through repository deposits and preservation manifests to guarantee long-term access.

Article processing charges apply

This journal charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) to support open-access publication. APC: 50,000 NGN. Policy waivers may apply for eligible authors.

How we measure readership while respecting visitor privacy.

Article usage metrics

Views and PDF downloads are counted to support editorial reporting and library SUSHI usage statistics. We exclude known bots, deduplicate rapid repeat visits within 30 minutes, and store a hashed browser fingerprint rather than personal identity.

Geography & institutions

When traffic passes through Cloudflare or a similar proxy, we may record a two-letter country code. If your IP matches a library range configured by the publisher, we may attribute usage to that institution (optionally with a ROR identifier) for consortia reporting — not for marketing.

Site analytics

Public pages (home, search, issues, chapter portals) may record anonymized page views and search queries to improve discoverability. Optional Google Analytics 4 can be enabled per journal in admin Settings → SEO.

Yes, provided the work falls within the journal\u2019s scope. Relevant contributions from allied disciplines — education, computer science, communication, management — are welcome when they speak to library and information questions.

The system sends an acknowledgement email immediately and assigns a manuscript code. The submission also appears in your author dashboard, where every later status change is reflected.

Original research articles typically run 4,000–8,000 words, reviews 5,000–10,000, case and practice papers 2,500–5,000, short communications 1,500–2,500, and book reviews 800–1,500 — excluding references, tables and captions. The Manuscript Preparation Guideline gives the full table.

Any one recognised scholarly style, applied consistently throughout, with every in-text citation matched in the reference list and vice versa. Include DOIs wherever available — they connect your article to citation indexes.

It is strongly recommended but not mandatory. An ORCID guarantees correct attribution across indexes and can be linked in your author profile or used to register and sign in.

Every submission first passes editorial screening for scope, originality and presentation. Those that proceed undergo double-blind review by at least two independent experts. Reviewers advise; editors decide.

Timelines vary with reviewer availability and revision rounds. Your dashboard always shows the current stage, and revision deadlines are displayed with each request. Contact the editorial office if a submission seems stalled.

Accept needs only production edits. Minor revision needs small defined changes; major revision needs substantial reworking and is not a promise of acceptance. A rejection closes the file, though resubmission may be encouraged where stated.

Yes. Send a reasoned appeal addressing the reviewers\u2019 and editor\u2019s points to the editorial office. Appeals receive a fresh editorial look, which may or may not lead to re-review.

Your manuscript moves to copyediting and layout, then you approve galley proofs. A DOI is assigned, the article appears Online First, and it is later assigned to a published issue. You are notified at each step.
